Favorite Family Vacation

Challenge~ If you can remember going on a family vacation. What was your favorite and why?

I didn't really take any family vacations. But I do however remember a great trip I took at 13 years old. It was my first year being in foster care. My foster mom Sharon signed me up for a summer camp at the YMCA. Camp Widjiwagan in Ely, Minnesota. It was for 13 days. I had a wonderful time. Stayed in a cabin for the first few days. Then we headed out on trails for 7 days. We canoed from place to place setting up our tents at a different place every day. We had one day of rest and well that didn't turn out to good. As that day it rained so we stayed in our tents. It was a long boring day, not like we had planned for our layover day. We all wanted to cliff jump and stuff. Got to see alot of wonderful country side up there in the Boundary Waters. On one of our last days out on trail, we had an accident happen to the wooden canoe. The beaver dam was right by our portage and it pulled us in, putting a huge hole in the canoe. We couldn't go anyplace. So one of our adult chaperone's, went back to camp to get help. We sat there most of the day. With it raining on and off all day. The bugs were just nasty. I remember counting all the mosquito bites on my legs and I had over 100. A good thing came out of that accident tho and that was use girls sitting around talking and getting to know one another better. The camp helpers who came out to get the canoe, and give us a new one. Brought us some "YUMMY carmel rolls" it was a wonderful treat.

Once we got back to camp. It was time to work on our end of the camp skits. We did one about out canoe accident. And YUMMY carmel rolls. I dont have many pictures.
Here is the website if any of you would like to check out this great camp http://www.widji.org/ YMCA Camp Widjiwagan

I love hearing other peoples camp stories! Mostly because I am not a camper and did not like to be away from home (except to my grandparents) when I was young. Come to think of it... I don't much like being away from home now either!!

That's great that you have vivid memories of your camping trip when you were young. My daughter Danelia goes to a similar camp during the summer for 3 days and she loves it! Love the pictures that you posted!
